    FAQ

Do I need a visa as well as a visitor permit?
Only if your nationality is on the official visa-national list. All other visitors receive the visitor permit on arrival without a prior visa; visa nationals must secure the visa in advance (see the visitor-visa route).

How long can I stay as a visitor?
One month on arrival as standard. Advance applications can seek up to 6 months, and total visitor-permit time is capped at nine months in twelve (twelve months in twenty-four for qualifying family members of residents).

Can I work while on a visitor permit?
No. Employment is prohibited; taking work without permission risks a fine of up to £3,000. Limited business activities and short-term work permissions exist under strict conditions (see the business-visitor route).
