    FAQ

Does everyone need a visa before traveling to Chile?
No. Most travelers enter without prior authorization and receive the permission at the border. Only nationals of designated countries must obtain a prior authorization (visa) from a Chilean consulate before traveling; check your nationality in the consulate table.

    How long can I stay?
Up to 90 days, extendable once for up to 90 additional days through a paid extension. The stay may never exceed the validity of your passport or travel document.

Can I work on this permission?
No. Transitory-stay holders may not perform paid activities. A separate work authorization exists only for specific sporadic activities such as public entertainment, sports, lectures, or expert technical advice.

Can I switch to residence while in Chile?
No. As a rule, transitory stays cannot be converted into residence inside Chile. Exceptions include family ties with Chileans or permanent residents, dependent status, humanitarian reasons, and other cases qualified under the law.
